Stem Cells from Blood a 'Huge' Milestone

Researchers have now reported the ability to derive induced pluripotent stem cells from human blood. This advance marks a leap forward for personalized medicine and therapeutic cell based strategies as it is easier to draw blood than to obtain fibroblasts. In addition, blood cells can be induced to form iPS cells in a few days versus the month it takes to induce fibroblasts to form stem cells.
